A piece produced in my jewellery elective at uni.  The brief was to create a small scale jewellery piece which said something about our identity.  We were allowed to use brass and copper – only cold-work methods (drills, saw piercing, filing, sanding, polishing).

This piece shows my personal history.  My family moved very often when I was younger, and I think this greatly influenced who I am today.  I wanted to create a layer for each city I have lived in, stacked one on top of the other, like sediment.  Each symbol/image has a personal meaning for me, and is something I connect with the each city.

This was my first time working with metal…and I loved it!!

A quick small sketch I did today.  Probably took about 2 hours, and its actually only 10cm high.  I hadn’t done a self portrait in ages, so thought I’d give it a go.

For a new project here at the HKU where I’m on exchange for the next semester.  We were told to go out and make a collection of interesting things from our particular site – namely the Sloterplas in Amsterdam.

So yesterday I spent the entire day in this park, taking photos, writing notes, drawing sketches etc.  I’m quite happy with some of the photos so I thought I’d share some…I did take about 400!  They all turned out a bit sinister…

Taken a few months ago in a Aussie town called Bellingen.  I stayed with a friend and her family for a few days, and we for the most we just chilled out.  We went for a little trip to this river/creek that is the place to be in Summer…but when we got there it was just a bit too cold!  Beautiful colours though, it’d just been raining, so all the wood was lovely and dark and the greens looked greener – and that beautiful fresh soil smell. Anyway, I just really love the colours, so thought I’d share.

A friend of mine asked me to engrave her guitar, she asked for flowers…so I gave her flowers!  It took quite a long time, but luckily I managed to borrow an engraver from my mum’s work – made life a lot easier.  Hope you like.

I had a beautiful calendar with some works from Alphonse Mucha, and felt inspired to create something using similar elements and style.    Its still incomplete, but I always love this stage of drawing – nearing completion, where everything starts coming together.  Hope you like.

an overdue birthday gift

Last year, a friend of mine asked me to make a drawing or painting for her birthday.  As usual with these things, I started and then never finished.  But, FINALLY, a year later I managed to finish it and she got it for her 20th birthday instead.  I think shes happy

She had asked me to include a few things in the artwork – a wrought iron bench, a pink flamingo, a cherry blossom tree, herself and a toucan.  I took a bit of artistic license here an there – stylising the wrought iron bench and transforming the toucan into an owl…but I think the final result suits her.  Hope you like.
